A Crossville woman was flown to a Chattanooga hospital on Monday after her vehicle was impaled by a guardrail on I-40. It happened shortly before noon at the eastbound 308 mile marker. According to the THP, 48-year-old Shanna Lowery was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima when she lost control and slammed into a guardrail, which went through both the driver and passenger side of the vehicle. Ms. Lowery had to be extricated from the wreckage and was flown by helicopter to Erlanger with serious injuries. The Interstate was shut down for several hours with traffic backed up well past Monterey in Putnam County.
