During the regular monthly meeting of the Cumberland County Board of Education, board members attempted to clarify the recent mandate for the wearing of masks when school starts. The board discussed at length, options and concerns from parents about the requirement. The board approved a motion that changed the wording of an earlier motion. Board member Safdie made the motion that states that facial coverings are to be worn by employees, students, and visitors when social distancing cannot be maintained, and when situationally appropriate. The motion passed in a 5-3 vote with Board member Karge absent. Members Inman, Netherton and Hamby voted against the measure.
