At Monday’s regular meeting, the Cumberland County Commission passed a resolution to put Cold Springs Road back on the county road list so residents can access Wattenbarger Cemetery, which is a family cemetery. According to Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster, a section of the road was inadvertently left off the road list in 2005. Recently, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency built a gate across Cold Springs Road that is closed 24/7, blocking access to the entrance to the cemetery. Monday night’s resolution to put the road back on the county road list was passed 18-0 with an amendment to ensure the road goes at least to the cemetery. County Attorney Philip Burnett informed the Commission that TWRA had advised him that they have no desire to impede County efforts regarding the road and there is no need to reimburse for the improvements TWRA has made to the road. However, TWRA may request more law enforcement in the area to curb poaching and other illegal activities.
